The last time I visited the Bernat offices the Baby Blanket Puffy Baby Blanket was being passed around the design table. It was so ridiculously soft and comfy that I really wanted to make one for my youngest son. The challenge? Well, at 11-years-old, he's not a baby. Thankfully though, even though the word "baby" is in the yarn's name, there are a few colors in the collection that will work for any age. I chose Baby Sand and Little Sand Castles (currently available on end caps at Jo-ann stores) -- see below for results!
I love the way that color and size can completely change the age specs and look of a project -- you'd never know this pattern was originally designed with infants in mind! For this version I chained 67 (64 + 3 which counts as the first DC), then followed the pattern as-is for the rest of the blanket. For the edging, I opted for half-double crochet.
I'm happy to report, that my kiddo digs his Puffy Pre-Teen Blanket. Oh, and even though he's not a baby anymore, he'll always be mine. :)

Vickie
That is so awesome! I've adapted giant afghan patterns into baby blankets, but I love the idea of doing the opposite. I'm in the middle of a bunch of projects, but I want to drop everything and make myself a cozy blanket. Right NOW. Thanks for the idea!
