Name: Margot Potter
Gig(s): The Impatient Beader & Crafter
Excerpt Craft Corps (Chapter 24):
"VH: I read on Twitter that you live in Amish country. How does being surrounded by a culture that so greatly values working with one's hands influence what you do as a designer?
MP: It's funny, because they don't look at it like we do. There's not as much ego or ownership associated with their craft, because it's a livelihood They're very pragmatic and practical about everything. That perspective helps me keep it real in the sense that I may get too serious or self-important about something I'm doing, but then have to realize that I'm not saving the word. It's not nuclear physics. It's just crafting. There's a balance between becoming attached to the outcome and also being reverent about the fact that creativity is powerful. When you're creating, you're channeling something positive and bigger than you. I guess living in Amish country has given me that perspective."
