Gig(s): Knitting Author, Instructor and Founder of Stitch Cooperative
Excerpt Craft Corps (Chapter 9):
"VH: Who, if anyone, helped open the professional crafty doors for you?
SO: Obviously I had the childhood experiences, in terms of getting primed. But the two people I give big credit to are Lucy Lee who owns Mind's Eye Yarns in Campbridge Massachusetts, and Kathy Cano-Murrilo (see page 68). When I moved to Boston, I started knitting at Lucy's store. She taught me hot to knit better and how to spin. Then, Kathy--this is way back when knit blogging was really new and there weren't that many--Kathy said, 'Well, my publisher wants to do a knitting book, and I know you write and knit. Are you interested?' She introduced me to my first publisher. So between the two of them, they really for me going professionally."
Today's Giveaway: Sweater Design Online Knitting Course ($45 Value)!
Using Shannon’s ‘treasure map’ technique, which she’s used to teach dozens of knitters how to find their own inner designer, you will learn how to design your own dream sweaters, sized to fit YOU, working with the yarn and knitting techniques you like to use. You’ll primarily examine both top-down raglan and bottom up one-piece fitted sleeve construction, though other construction methods will be discussed if there is interest. Students can knit a miniaturized version of an adult sweater OR a full-sized sweater depending on their preference and personal knitting speed. Class normally costs $45 for for 1 winner, it's free!

your story made me think about my crafty beginnings....and it boils down to this-in my family if you needed something you made it or you went without. As a child I thought everybody did the same and as a teenage flower child I was proud to say "I made it myself". I have never made myself a sweater and would love to have a lesson by you so I can say I made it myself.
ReplyDeleteTisha Thompson
I would love to make (finish) a sweater that fits!
