I Love: Sewing in a Straight Line

Last week I went to New York to style the next round of Sheep(ish) garments that will go into the Caron Connections newsletter, and then to shoot the cover (I'll be on it, wearing a Sheep(ish) cowl I designed) of the holiday issue of Knit Simple Magazine. The highlight of my trip though, had to be meeting up with the delightful Brett Bara for dinner and a trip to the Met to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit!

Not only was the museum (and the company) fantastic, but I got treated to a sneak peak of Brett's new book, Sewing in a Straight Line!

You know how proud I get of my friends and their accomplishments, right? Well, I'm beaming over this one! Brett's projects are easy to follow, totally wearable and beautifully styled. The book is crisply executed with the modern esthetic of today's, creative woman. If you've ever wanted to give a sewing machine a whirl, but were nervous about patterns with their pesky curves, Sewing in a Straight Line is for you!

In the book you'll find a well-rounded collection of clothing, baby items and home decor pieces. Here are just a few of my faves (If I had a torso, I'd make the cover skirt in a flash! Alas.)

Sewing in a Straight line is available in stores and online now, and you can also enter to win a copy on Brett's blog. Oh, and once you've purchased or won the book, make sure to take advantage of Brett's video tutorials for a few of the projects.

NEW SHEEP(ish) PATTERN: Penny Arcade Jacket

My latest design in Sheep(ish) is available for free now on Caron.com. For this one, I paired the wavy lines of the Arcade Stitch pattern with a clean, boxy cut to create a roomy, go-with-everything jacket. Penny Arcade can be dressed up by belting and pairing with a funky skirt or sleek pants. Make it casual by throwing it over a t-shirt and jeans. It works with anybody's style really, and is the perfect garment to keep around when you want to cozy-up!

Too hot to crochet this one today? Well, you can still plan ahead for the Fall. Right now through July 16th, Sheep(ish) is on sale for $2.99 a ball at participating JoAnn stores! Find a store here. Buy now, crochet later!
